Chicago has all the buzz and culture of a big city–but doesn’t overwhelm it’s visitors the same way New York City or Los Angeles might. There are serene parks, stunning museums, and booming business: but the crown jewel of Chicago very well may be its restaurants. Here are four Chicago restaurants that everyone should try at least once.
- Johnny’s Grill– Johnny’s Grill is a sweet diner in the Logan Square neighborhood. It’s a small, casual place that serves up delicious toasts, homemade poptarts, and classics like Eggs Benedict. It has the look of an old diner, but but the taste of a modern, American restaurant. Plus, it’s connected to a mezcal bar. It doesn’t get much cooler that that.
- Carnivale Restaurant– The inside of Carnivale looks about like what you would expect it to. The entire restaurant is cast in multi-colored light, the decor all in bright colors, and yards of fabric hang from the ceiling, ready for someone to climb them Cirque du Soleil-style. You really just need to see the pictures. This restaurant serves up an array of Latin American foods, and it a very popular spot for private parties. A reservation is recommended.
- Urbanbelly– While the name alone should be enough to entice Chicago visitors and residents alike, it must be said that Urbanbelly has a lot to offer. Urbanbelly is a charming Asian fusion restaurant where you can eat kimchi, pho, and PB&J ice cream all in the same meal. There are two locations, so you should try both!
- Girl & the Goat– This is a much talked about restaurant in Chicago. Girl & the Goat serves up the finest that modern American cuisine has to offer from roasted beets to duck tongue to a cake with pink peppercorns in it. Needless to say, this is one swanky joint. The interior is a beautiful combination of glass, brick, and hardwood. It is simultaneously sleek and rustic. Girl & the Goat is definitely worth a look and a taste.
